Ocean City finally gets good … Sorta

Written By Trevor Moran on May 27th, 2010 with 1 Comment.

As per KR’s Post, the waves finally were rideable in Ocean City the other day.  The weather warmed up, raising the ocean temp, and bringing a solid ground swell.  I saw the forecast about a week ago and tracked it up til D-Day.  I managed to set myself up to have off work and penciled in a full day of surf for Wednesday.  South East swell, 6 feet at 11 seconds, light SSW winds on Tuesday, with super light NW on Wednesday morning – an epic setup and guaranteed fun waves. Well, this is Ocean City we’re talking about,…

Blast from the Past: Nicaragua ’08

Written By Trevor Moran on May 17th, 2010 with 3 Comments.

Another week has gone by, ushered along by gusting West winds.  Which means another week of spring flatness on the East Coast.  Which means another post where I dip back into the archives for some eye candy featuring surfing.  The good news is that I got enough unpublished backlog that we can easily make it through all the mid summer flat spells.  I guess that would be bad news though because it would be flat, and also I have so many days shot without getting enough run.
Anyway.
These photos are from a trip I took with some of…

Blast from the Past: OZ ’06

Written By Trevor Moran on May 3rd, 2010 with 4 Comments.

Well, lets hear it for Spring flat spells!  With all the travleing I was doing I’ve been amping to get in a session in Jersey, but looks like Neptune has it out for us.  I can’t be down there to check it at dawn every day, but every time I finally think there may be a swell after work or on a day off, I race to the beach to find that its knee high and onshore.  Rad.
So that leaves me with the options of A. posting nothing; B. posting more about non-surfing; or C. rummage through the…

Like a Boss

As you have read, I’ve been traveling a lot recently.  Whether it has been to shoot surfing, relax, or work on the more commerical advertising shoots, I’ve been keeping mobile recently.  The other day, I was on my way back from Atlanta where we were shooting an ad for a company that shall remain nameless (Think “lemon lime” mixed with high fructose corn syrup).  I was sitting on the plane, First Class, waiting for takeoff, and sipping on a beer.  I had to take this down time to plan for my next Surfers Candy post.  Problem was that I…

Life in the Fast Lane

I addition to all the still photos I shot in Australia, I also was refining my technique shooting timelapses with my backup stills camera.  The amazing sunsets and cloud movements are a pretty good subject for timelapses, not to mention it you really get to see what a machine the superbank is when its just wave after wave cranking down the point.  It was a fun surprise getting to watch all the movements of people on the ground and their predictability compared to the randomness of the things around them – specifically the seagulls that are walking around, if…

Australia Now: Redux

Written By Trevor Moran on April 12th, 2010 with 4 Comments.

Last time I arrived in australia it was the evening of March 22nd, 2009.  When I returned at 6am on March 23rd, 2010 I realized I had been away from Australia for too long.  About 12 hours too long according to the customs official who made me pay to renew my visa since its only valid for 1 year.
However this year’s trip was a bit unlike the last.  This was about relaxing and enjoying some warm weather after a brutal and draining winter.  I did bring my photo gear, but I wasn’t going to Surf-Mecca as a surf…

Racking up Frequent Flyer Miles

So the London post was only one part of my recent globe trotting adventures.  As I explained previously, the large part of my photo income comes from working on commercial photoshoots rather than surf photos.  I was hired to travel to London for a shoot for ESPN for five days.  While in England, I was booked to be on a job in Syracuse immediately after we wrapped in London.  However, on the last day of our London job, ESPN wanted us to be in Amsterdam within two days for another shoot.  In order to make things work, on a…

Geography Refresher

If you are reading my blog on here you know that I’m a surf photographer.  What many people don’t know as much about is that I make the majority of my income not from shooting surfing, but rather working on larger scale photoshoots.  Usually these shoots are for an advertising campaign for a new product, or for a cover of a magazine.  I work as a digital tech which means I man the computer station as the digital photos come in as well as setup lighting and general camera maintenance etc.
Aside from the fact that it pays reasonably…
