There are three kinds of surfers on this planet. The rich who live on the beach and just get to look out their window and check the waves just beyond their estate’s mote. Then there are those that live too far away from the beach that checking the waves with their actual eyes is totally out of the question so they check the cams on Surfline (or those who live on the beach and are total hermits).
Finally, there is me. I’m the guy who lives close enough to the waves that a walk isn’t out of the question, but if I want to look anywhere else down beach, my car has to come in to play. I drive a lot already, and the last thing I like doing is having to drive to see the waves. Plus the donkey train of you and your bros following eachother’s U-Turns is a bit ridiculous – not to mention risky in some localz-only spots. I would surely ride a bike, but wrapping your wetsuit and towel around your board and folding the whole 20 pound rig under your left arm isn’t really ideal for when you are making a two or three mile trek.
Enter “the Wave” (yeah, I didn’t name it). Its a concept bike that allows you to put the board under the seat of your bike so you don’t have to carry it and get a dead arm before you paddle out. Although the bike itself looks a little to Apple 1998 for me, the idea is cool. Earth cruisers are already the bike of choice for most surfers, so modeling this bike in that classic form seems smart. Its always good to know that the surf industry is represented in technological advances – and not just in the stuipidest ways the world has ever seen.
Imagine 5 years from now – how many of these things will there be parked at Trestles, complete with unwanted stickers and tagged with names in wax.
