Arrived in Puerto without too-much travel drama – just a minor delay in Mexico City. It was announced over the PA that we were stopped on the tarmac because of a fire on the runway in Puerto Escondido. That’s a first. I never knew asphalt to be flammable. Turns out it was just all of the vegetation adjacent to the runway. After being in the heat for a few hours I began to think that the PA announcement was some sort of a foreshadowing metaphor for how hot it is down here at this time of year. It definitely feels like it is on fucking fire.
Luckily the waves have been “on fire” as well. Not just because of the absurdly warm water temperatures, but also because of the swell in the water. A solid 6-8’ swell was there to greet Zack and I on our first morning together out in the Puerto line-up. We didn’t link up on any super sick ones, but the forecast is looking solid for at least the next week so we’ll put in our time and hopefully come away with some keepers.
Here’s a taste of what we got to sample on our first morning… Be sure to click on the photos for a higher-resolution image.
