“The Dog Days Are Over?”
Some of our Surfers Candy crew has signed up with former Kansas City Chiefs player Dave Klemic for a tailor made boot camp designed for surfers. Andrew Gesler, Zack Humphreys, Ian Bloch, and myself have been going for the last two weeks and are definitely getting our sweat on. Dave has developed a program specifically for surfers that emphasizes explosive, fast, powerful motions that have your legs feeling like jelly when you walk out the door. Gesler admitted last week that he,”almost blacked out!” after our final drill of the day.
The program is on Tuesdays and Thursdays at…

Thanks god fall came in with a bang. This is the time of year we all just dream about all summer long as we ride grovelers and hop around in knee high mush. The hurricane swells pulsed and found a lot of long period walled out beaches, but last week our little wind swell just rocked our beaches here. At every nook and cranny in town there was wedges to be found, tubes to be stood up in , and lined up peeling walls to slice to pieces. I feel lucky to just be able to suit up at…
Finally a wind swell. It seems as though the last 8 swells have been nothing but big walls. High expectations from a category 5 swinging by our coast tend to leave us baffled were not scoring. One thing that’ll always do it though is a good ol’ wind swell. Here’s a video that Matt Rinck made from last friday.

As per Jamie’s post, we spent the past week in Cali for the Shop Challenge contest. Leaving firing East Coast, we were greeted in typical Huntington style by inconsistent thigh high surf. The waves didn’t provide much opportunity to shoot action, but luckily I was armed to the teeth, ready for every lifestyle shot. Bonus video will be coming along soon to wrap out or story – just gotta edit it all together.

Back in the spring Heritage Surf and Sport took home the gold at the Regional Surf Shop Challenge with a talented team made up of myself, Zack Humphreys, Andrew Gesler, and Ian Bloch. Winning the event earned us an all expenses paid trip, which went down this week, to Huntington Beach, California to compete for the national title and $10,000. We went into the event very confident that we could take out the stacked field of competitors but mother nature had other plans for us, unfortunately. Long story short when it was our team’s turn to take to the…

What do you do when you show up for your flight and you miss it by 5 minutes? Have a cocktail at 9 am of course. But anyway. I never really knew how much work goes into “hunting” hurricanes until this last trip. Last minute decisions, spot changes, wind forecasts, all led us to the same question. “Where do we go from here?”. A question that was brought up more then asking
I recently ventured down to the probably one of the coolest little destinations I’ve been to. Wilmington, NC, where I met up with Ben Bourgeois. A burrito…

So I was down in Virgina Beach for ecse and all I could think about was Hurricane Danielle on its way. On a last minute decision Mike Gleason and I teamed up with photog Jason Murray and decided to follow Danielle up north. I left VB around ten at night and drive up to NJ by myself. I ended up getting to my house at 5am and I had to be at newark airport for my flight at 9. I almost missed my flight but somehow made it. Once we got there and saw the waves it was well…
