US Open of FREEZING

Written By Matt Keenan on July 18th, 2009

Im not to sure what’s going on at the US Open in Huntington Beach but its the end of july and the water is 59 degrees. My feet were so cold during the warm up today that I just came home and went for 2 surfs down at lowers. Got yelled at because my sticker fell off my boards and was called so many names the only thing I could do was smile and laugh. Good old surf rage at lowers. Surf at 11 tomorrow so I hope I can stay warm enough to make some heats and get…

summers for surfers

Written By Matt Keenan on July 14th, 2009

Summer water and weather makes it so easy to get into the swing of things and get some surf lessons. Our camp in Avalon has been packed with new kids and families learning to surf. It’s really a cool feeling to see someone catch their first wave and then to see their faces when they get back out to you is even better. I’ll tell you what as I get older I get just as much satisfaction from teaching surfing and watching them get good waves as I do when I get a good one….well just about as much!!!…

tiny turn on an even tinier wave

Trip ending on a great note with me making a bunch of really tought heats in even tougher conditions. Had a great final and thought I had a shot at the $5,000 first place check. Everyone on the beach told me I won and I was so nervous on the winners stand. I got 3rd some people shook their heads and I was crushed..ahhh contests.

making heats really makes the trip

Written By Matt Keenan on July 11th, 2009

Surf today wasn’t nearly as good as the past two days. Really inconsistent and mushy but if you got luky you could squeeze a few turns in. I made two heats and now Im in the quarters. At least some good money and making heats really makes the trip worth it. Ian Bloch surprised a lot of people today and took out two heats today as well to advance to the quarters as well. Another good day to be a pro surfer..

Down in NC…Reef Sweetwater Pro-Am

Written By Rob Kelly on July 10th, 2009

Pessimisticly flew down to Wrightsville yesterday with Ian Bloch, Matt Keenan and little Mikey C to surprisingly find a little windswell down here. Contest started today and Ian, Mikey and I made our heats. Keenan’s had good results at this event in the past and was seeded into the round 64 and spent his time doin some shady craiglist deals at the airport in his quest for some new headphones.

Sam's Epic One Footer

A few weeks back, we had a fundraiser to support the Dark Fall video.  While I don’t really feel like rewriting what has already been said, I will say that it was a blast.
Here are some of the top contenders for awesome photo of the night.   Enjoy

Gold Coast Success

Written By Jamie Moran on July 8th, 2009

The morning view from my balcony. Jackpot.

My previous post chronicled the first part of my recent mission to the fabled land of 10 second tubes known as the Gold Coast. If you remember, I was starting out in Sydney, which is supposed to be an 11 hour drive away from the 3km stretch of sand know as the Superbank, and I was trying to meet up with a massive winter-time low that was pushing 20-30 foot seas right into Australia’s east coast. It was more or less a last minute decision to pull the trigger and charge the drive because the forecasts were changing every…
