Elationsurfcamps goes huge on the 10 show

Written By Matt Keenan on August 13th, 2009 with No Comments.

I’ve always had bad luck in the investments that i’ve made. Two years ago my best friend and I started Elation Surf Camps. I’ve taught lessons since I was a grom but now having a total inclusive surf camp that’s all ours, we can do things our way. I partnered up with the city of Avalon last year and since then it’s just grew and this year it’s taken on a whole new facet. We’ve been rated the best at the shore in Philly Magazine, gotten written up in Main line magazine and now the 10 show on channel…

me n my pops..

Im not to sure if everyone knows just how hard my dad works at putting on the NSSA events back here. He works tirelessly for about 20 years to get the kids the events they need to qualify for Easterns as well as Nationals. Today just showed me why I’ve got so much respect for what he does and for how hard it is to exactly what he does. The rain started coming down right after we got set up and came and came and came for most of the morning. At one point the winds picked up and…

boosting and air and rob kelly giving me the approval

Sorry I’ve been kinda absent lately. If you never knew, summer time at the beach is the time to rake in a few extra bucks and try to save up some much needed dollars. Im getting married on October 24th of this year so Im going to be needed more then a few extra dollars to help me out this fall. Ive been teaching surf camp at our Elation surf camp in Avalon and doing private lessons in OC in the afternoon and then working nights at the Who’s on First organic eatery on 1st and asbury. Seems like…

Losing never gets any easier.

The WQS is all based on seeding. last years final ratings determine where you start in the contest the first half of the next year. Then usually the US Open is the first contest of the reseed. Depending on how your rated you could start in a better round in the contest, or if you are having a terrible year you could start in a worse place. Last year was a shocker for me and the few WQS events I did I lost every time. This year has been going well with a quarter final in HB in March…

US Open of FREEZING

Written By Matt Keenan on July 18th, 2009 with No Comments.

Im not to sure what’s going on at the US Open in Huntington Beach but its the end of july and the water is 59 degrees. My feet were so cold during the warm up today that I just came home and went for 2 surfs down at lowers. Got yelled at because my sticker fell off my boards and was called so many names the only thing I could do was smile and laugh. Good old surf rage at lowers. Surf at 11 tomorrow so I hope I can stay warm enough to make some heats and get…

summers for surfers

Written By Matt Keenan on July 14th, 2009 with No Comments.

Summer water and weather makes it so easy to get into the swing of things and get some surf lessons. Our camp in Avalon has been packed with new kids and families learning to surf. It’s really a cool feeling to see someone catch their first wave and then to see their faces when they get back out to you is even better. I’ll tell you what as I get older I get just as much satisfaction from teaching surfing and watching them get good waves as I do when I get a good one….well just about as much!!!…

Everyone on the beach told me I won and I was so nervous on the winners stand. I got 3rd some people shook their heads and I was crushed..ahhh contests.

making heats really makes the trip

Written By Matt Keenan on July 11th, 2009 with No Comments.

Surf today wasn’t nearly as good as the past two days. Really inconsistent and mushy but if you got luky you could squeeze a few turns in. I made two heats and now Im in the quarters. At least some good money and making heats really makes the trip worth it. Ian Bloch surprised a lot of people today and took out two heats today as well to advance to the quarters as well. Another good day to be a pro surfer..
