Anyone know this filmer?

Written By Matt Keenan on April 18th, 2010 with 4 Comments.

Been a crazy week here in Florida. It literally blew onshore at over 25mph each day and it progressively got smaller. How is that even possible? One weird thing this trip was this guy who was always seemingly showing up every time Rob got in a session. Anyone know this guy? haha

Landshark Day 2…..The Triangle..

Written By Matt Keenan on April 17th, 2010 with 3 Comments.

Surfing really pisses me off sometimes. Actually the only  time I really ever get pissed off anymore is when you get an unfair shake and things don’t go your way. If you don’t get any waves in your heat and you lose, it’s a huge bummer but when you show up and bring your A game and it still doesn’t go your way it’s enough to make you lose your mind with craziness and almost lose sleep over it. Today was one of those days for me.
I won my heat in the morning and yesterday with simple strategies….

Landshark Pro Day 1

Written By Matt Keenan on April 16th, 2010 with 1 Comment.

Well sometimes the gods smile down on you and bring you the waves and other times you just have to put your head down and work for it. Today for me anyways it was the later. New Smyrna on low tide is a crazy labyrinth of peaks breaking way to far outside and for added craziness, it was packed full of sharks. I’m not talking about Jaws but big ones all up and down the line up. Gabe Kling had a six foot shark land right on his back and sent him and three others guys scrambling to the…

Surfing is just that GOOD

Written By Matt Keenan on April 15th, 2010 with No Comments.

I’ve been in Florida for a few days now and the winds have been howling onshore everyday. If this was NJ it would be way overhead and we’d be finding some barrels somewhere or dealing with a great drift down beach at our favorite spots. It’s been getting smaller and smaller everyday since day one, but today we had a little treat. I called up CJ Hobgood , who’s home for a few more days before heading off to Brazil so we grabbed a session our front of my buddy JT’s house. It was mushy choppy and about chest…

Lighting makes it all happen….

Written By Matt Keenan on April 12th, 2010 with 1 Comment.

I’ve always had this fascination with crazy lighting in photos. Sometimes it;s not always about the action but about the composition of a photo. I was meeting up with all the Hyperflex wetsuit guys a few weeks back and my boy , Scott, brought along a super cool guy named David Macomber with him. He just kinda swam around with us and the surf was tiny and loosing light quick. I wasn’t even sure where he was positioned most of the time but here’s a few gems he grabbed. Check out his photo blog at http://davidmacomber.com/ and if you…

Loving So Cal…..

Rob and I are in town to surf the Vans WQS up in Huntington Beach. I’ve been staying with Mike Losness for about ten years now and the last few trips Rob has been staying here as well. I’ve got to thank him for always making his home our home and who better to crash with then one of the world’s best surfers? The surf since we got out here has been nuts and we got a few great sessions filming down in San Diego. The weather has been perfect, the water’s way warmer then home and Rob’s already…

Filtrate Eyewear is Taking over…

Written By Matt Keenan on March 25th, 2010 with 2 Comments.

So I posted a little blurp about the new venture a few days ago. I’m going to just have to drop a few more bits of info on all of you to get the word out there. I can;t name another brand that’s got style, quality and polarized glasses for $60. I just got back from the new office in San Clemete and the styles of shades I saw were outta hand. They’ve got a twitter going so get on it and follow them (@filtrateeyewear) a wedbsite, so go check out all the product and all the happenings (filtrateeyewear.com…

Transworldsurf.com puts the OC Front and Center.

Having the opportunity to shoot photos at home in NJ can be a really big challenge but also a great little reward when things come together. I’ve always thought that the surfing here has a lot of really photographic moments, that it just takes some luck. Last week the surf was pumping and Andrew and I were on it every morning and even had a few days in a row with ace transworld staffer, Seth Stafford, and some nice weather to work with.
The good old boys at TWS were stoked on what we came out with and added…

FILTRATE EYEWEAR is signing up the boys….

Written By Matt Keenan on March 23rd, 2010 with No Comments.

I’ve been very blessed in this life to meet a lot of great friends and contacts in the industry. I was flipping through and ESM and Bliss magazine and saw this ad for filtrate eyewear. I went to their site and just was blown away with the styles they had and how good they looked. Then I realized that the shades were polarized and retailing at $60. I thought I was seeing things but low and behold these shades are constructed incredibly well, the lenses are out of this world and the fit is crazy.
I was down at…
