Landshark Day 2…..The Triangle..

Surfing really pisses me off sometimes. Actually the only  time I really ever get pissed off anymore is when you get an unfair shake and things don’t go your way. If you don’t get any waves in your heat and you lose, it’s a huge bummer but when you show up and bring your A game and it still doesn’t go your way it’s enough to make you lose your mind with craziness and almost lose sleep over it. Today was one of those days for me.

I won my heat in the morning and yesterday with simple strategies. I was always going to be the furthest guy out, catch the biggest waves, get a big outside maneuver and then ride through to the inside and finish it off. Sound extremely simple right? For the first few rounds it was very easy. Today’s heats seemed easy enough with a great plan and all was working easily and effortlessly. Then in my second heat today, the quarters, things got a little bit weird and took a turn for the worst. It was a slow heat but I just waited way out the back. I caught what i feel was my best wave of the vent but with the winds I couldn’t hear the scores. I waited again for what I knew just needed to be a back up score. I foamy right wedge comes right to me and I turn around and drop in. I see out of the corner of my eye after I am already up and riding down the line a guy starting to paddle and try to stand up coming at me. He never fully stands up and just plows into me and takes me out. I’m fuming and tell him he’s got to be high because he’s out of his mind. We exchange some rated R words a few splashes and I go on my merry way back out the back. I thought I heard interference white on yellow. I’m smiling because I’m yellow and it was the right call. I get another wave which really opens up and allows me to get 5 good vertical backside hits all the way to the beach and I figure it’s a signed sealed and delivered heat, hello semi finals.

I’ve been doing this for a long time so I know the rules, how to play within the rules etc. I got taken out after I had control of the wave and everyone on the beach was asking the other guy wtf he was thinking being such an idiot. The Five wise men aka the judges, well there was only three actually, they saw it differently and called a double interference. I am only allowed my best wave and my second score gets cut in half. I lose by .04 and that’s all she wrote. GAME> SET>MATCH. Pick up your check, shrug it off and be pissed the entire ride home down 95 until we get back to my buddy JT’s. Rob and I immediately head over to the movies and see KICKASS and it is exactly that, KICKASS!! It brought our spirits back and now it’s off to PR with my wife and some friends tomorrow night. Forecast has a lot of rain for the whole week but if the world throws you lemons make some lemonade…..

Interference calls can be the lamest things on earth. Where’s the video review already!? That sucks. Oh and “The Five Wise Men” – hilarious

I can’t believe that call. 20K contest and that’s the best they can put on the panel?

The entire beach remmed out the other guy. He just dropped in on me never stood up and plowed me down and took my legs out. It really was so lame. He was yelling at me saying that was a perfect left and his friends just said no way you just straight up took out m
Matt and ruined him. So frustrating when this is my job and stupid stuff gets in the way. Knowing I had a really good wave I would never get into a paddle battle. It was the craziest thing ever, and I’ve been doing this forever..
