Well, it’s been a couple of years since my last visit to Virginia Beach for the annual ECSC (East Coast Surfing Championships) event, but having only been here one day I was instantly reminded of how out of control the surf/party scene is down here. People everywhere. Chicks everywhere. Huge scaffoldings. Pro surfers littering the lineups. Twelve foot vert ramps on the beach. Motocross ramps on the beach. Industry parties. Film premieres. Celebrity sightings. Complete pandemonium.
It’s hard to stay focused down here and you almost forget there is a surf contest going on. The main event of interest though (aside from the partying) is the Pro and Junior Pro surfing contests where the who’s-who of the top surfers in the country litter the heat sheets. A bunch of our Surfers Candy crew headed down here to showcase their skills and see what damage they could do. After the first day of surfing a lot of the crew was still going strong. Zack Humphreys and Ian Bloch made some heats before getting knocked out in the Junior Pro and were outperformed only by Rob Kelly’s 5th place finish. Rob, Gesler, and myself made our multiple heats and are surfing again on Saturday with the hope of waking up to some forerunners of the swell sent by Hurricane Danielle. I will keep you posted on how the event unfolds.

Sounds like quite the human watching spectacle! Can’t wait to hear more about the mayhem and maybe some sweet mulah and oversized checks?! Good luck guys. Don’t forget to get into the funnel for maximum points. VB is known for giant tubes
