Roll out the red carpet folks! For those of you who don’t know, a couple of our local shredders have successfully finagled their way into Hollywood’s limelight after being featured on a new MTV reality show called School of Surf. The show follows around two high school surfing teams as they hunt for the championship title in the Red Bull Riders Cup. And wouldn’t you know it, Ocean City High School is one of those high schools – Malibu High School is the other. 

I had heard rumors and seen cameras several months back, but I’ll be honest I wasn’t exactly betting the house that this was going to be exactly what it claimed to be. Would it be just a “web” only kind of show ? Would the filming ever end up making it’s way through the seemingly endless maze of TV producers and Hollywood execs ? Would the pilot episode fail and never be aired ? Don’t get me wrong I was hoping that it would all work out for the kids involved, but it’s tough to trust anything someone from MTV might tell you (I mean, whose making the quality programs on that channel anyway?). 

But sure enough, the other day I sat back and nearly burst at the seams when I saw Chris Kelly’s face plastered on my flat screen. For thirty minutes or so I chuckled and laughed as MTV attempted to capture the lifestyles of several of OC’s finest groms as they surfed, partied, competed, and cruised through their day. I saw a range of cameos and appearances from some of my best friends to other kids I see in the lineup on a regular basis. Everyone from Rob and Chris Kelly, Sean Santiago, Matt Keenan, Andrew Gesler, and even my brother, Brad, seemed to find a little face time as the episode unraveled. Maybe it’s just funny because I was seeing all of my friends on TV, but if you haven’t seen it yet you should check it out. There were waaayyyy too many funny things to report in one sitting here, so I recommend getting your own eyes on it if you can.

I’m super stoked for everyone involved and glad it came together for them (and that it made it passed the pilot episode). Let’s just hope their heads don’t get too big with all this new found fame …
