As of recent, we have had a decent run of little swells that seems to have kept most east coast surfers content with the fact that winter is rapidly approaching. While there hasn’t been anything overly significant in terms of epic swell, I have definitely been making the most of some really great sessions here in Jersey.

The other day I came across some video of one of the better sessions I have had all season. For the middle part of September I spent some time down in North Carolina, which I guess has become an annual pilgrimage for me since I was a little kid. During that time down there I competed in the Outer Banks Pro, which was fortunate enough to be graced with some solid groundswell and good conditions. After competition had finished one day, a bunch of friends and I sniffed out a solid sandbar just up the road from the event and had what could only be labeled as a “Super Session”.

It was essentially a who’s who of east coast professional surfing. Ben Bougious, Alek Parker, Jesse Hines, Andrew Gesler, Zack Humphreys, Mark Yonkers, Raven Lundy, Lucas Rogers, and the list goes on. The waves were some of the most fun I have had all year long. It was head to overhead and glassy with perfect A-frames littering the line-up. Not only was is a super session in terms of who was out that day, but it was also a super session from the standpoint that the waves were letting every surfer out really showcase their abilities. Huge carves, barrels, airs, flips, fin-throws, and everything in between were being thrown down by all.

My brother and I surfed for four hours until the darkness rising over the Atlantic’s horizon prevailed over the setting sun to the west. It was on of those classic fall days that I won’t forget anytime soon and I hope to be fortunate enough to have more sessions like that in the future. Great waves, great friends, and great weather -that’s what surfing is all about.
