Back in August, I was lucky enough to take a last minute trip over to Tahiti with the likes of Andrew Gesler, Dean Randazzo, Zack Humphreys, and Clay Pollioni. When my brother, Treovr, and I booked our tickets the night before leaving we were already in the midst of a mad-scramble to line up everything needed to get ourselves to Tahiti on such short notice. It was like: pack 8 boards, pack 100lbs or camera gear, get new gear same-day expressed from Ezekiel, get a ride situated for our flight out of philly at 6am the next day, sunscreen, wax, stickers, fins, flippers, passports, cash, contact info, the list goes on. But with everything we needed to do, there was one major piece of the puzzle that we were just winging it with – where we were staying. Although Andrew Gesler and a couple others had gone a couple of days earlier and were supposed to have been situated with a friend of a friend right at Teahupoo, it was definitely the one thing my brother and I really had no details on and hoped would just work out. Which is well and good, until you’re halfway across the Pacific and start thinking, “God I hope someone is really at the airport to pick us up.” Or when you arrive at customs and they start grilling you on where you are staying. “I need an address, sir, or you can’t enter the country.” It’s a lot of annoying stress for a 24-hour period – and that doesn’t even include hassling with airlines about taking 8 boards halfway across the world. “Sir, how many boards do you have in there?” “Why one of course.” (keep in mind some airlines charge up to $100 per board)
So who were we to stay with? The answer: Biff. Is that a first name or a last name? Turns out neither. I guess it’s a nickname for which the derivation is unclear but applies to guy named Adam who actually has New Jersey roots. His place turned out to be completely awesome. It was literally on the beach at Teahupoo. His house is smack in the middle of the Pacific Ocean on one side and lush, towering mountains on the other – a true tropical paradise. The first night my brother and I got there it was raining and we had to walk a muddy trail with all of our cargo in the pitch black as we made our way through the village at the end of the road. I’ll admit it seemed really sketchy that first night, but when morning arrived it was a totally different story. Adam and his hospitality literally made our trip. He’s the nicest guy on land but has a serious reputation for charging. I saw some photos and video of him when I was visiting that would blow your mind.
Anyway, I was checking Surfline the other day and saw a video of “Locals Charging” from Tahiti. I guess they had a swell recently and I clicked on the video betting to myself I would see video of Adam. And sure enough there he was catching some crazy ones at Teahupoo. While most of the other guys were towing in, he was paddling. And check the one wave he gets where he drops in behind a tow-in surfer and makes the barrel – ridiculous. Take a look at the video – he’s with the red board and helmet, his name is Adam D.

Adam's House - not too shabby

A pulled out view and perspective. That's a couple of us in the Teahupoo lineup with Adam's place alsmost visible on the shoreline. Again - not too shabby.
