Get in Line! Another bump in the road?!

Well, after a month of not feeling quit right, I went in and had a sonogram on my left shoulder and neck areas.  They found a clot in my left deep jugular vein and across my chest leading from my left arm to my right ventricle artery.  Kinda serious shit!?  If a piece of the clot had broken off it could cause some serious consequences.  Considering I was just in Mexico paddling my ass of and again at the DRCF Paddle for a cause in early June.  There is a thing called effort thrombosis from repetitive motion: pitchers and swimmers are likely candidates for this although very rare.  Usually these clots accure in older folk you hear about this from long plane rides most always in the leg area though.  My symptoms were not extremely noticeable, some stiffness in the back of the neck and a little bit on the side, some swelling in the left arm and an over all feeling of pressure and being backed up (not like in the morning after a cup o’joe)like when taking a deep breath.  I was immediately checked into the ER and a run of test and scans were performed.  I was quickly attacked by a crew of doctors, nurses and technicians, Poked and prodded for hours.  The good news is I’m cancer free and there were no clots elsewhere you already now the bad.  I was sent home on Heperin and coumadin two major blood thinners.  Ten days later,  I was admitted to the La Jolla Scripts med.centre where I spent the weekend (Friday 16th-Sunday night) and an angioplasty operation to clear the clot was performed.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angioplasty  After two days of two hour operations they cleared the clots!  I feel like I can breathe a lot better the pressure is gone but my arm still hurts and is a little swollen still.  I guess the radiation I had on my chest caused some fibrosis in the veins in that area and the over repetitive paddling compounded the cituation.  The major draw back is that I have to be on drug thinning medication for three months.   Now, I’m so happy that  thats over,  I’m doin the line dance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You’re bro filled us in at the Dark Fall premiere – stoked that everything worked out. Want to see you getting down like these folk in the video!

Damn Dean! That is gnarly as hell. I saw Joe at the Dark Fall premiere and he was starting to tell me about it but I didn’t get the full story. I’m stoked that you’re all good now though! After your 3 months of blood thinner meds lets go back to Mex but do a little less paddling – sooo much paddling down there! Get well!
