My biz partner Alex DePhillipo has been working hard in Hawaii this winter while I heal my knee. Every winter Dark Fall Productions and crew head to Hawaii to catch up with our friends and challenge ourselves at all the spots. This short film shows Hawaii how we know it best. Talk about motivation to heal, the boys are ripping, and I miss this beautiful place..
A short film shot on the North Shore of Oahu featuring Kalani Chapman, Flynn Novak, TJ Barron,
Bruce Irons, Keali’i Mamala and more.
Directed by Alex DePhillipo

Last week I was in good old Huntington Beach again to surf the Katin Pro/Am Team comp. I surfed for team Fox along side good friends Jesse Evans, Che Stang, and Bud Frietas.. Out of the 21 teams we pulled in at a cool 7th place.
Prior to the comp I had a few killer freesurf sessions with the boys at the pier. I stayed at the Shorebreak Hotel, thanks to Chris Drummy at FOX, which over looks the Northside from one of the most styled out rooms I’ve ever stayed in. The view I…

Alex DePhillipo’s Dark Fall, NJ surf documentary, swept the top two Honors at the New York Surf Film Festival (NYSFF) last month (like the Phils swept the Reds last week) and the whirl-wind that has followed is only now allowing me to post something about it..
As a co-producer of the film I am grateful for all the support we’ve received in this project, and I have to say the feeling I get, not only from watching the film, but in reflection on production/premieres/film festival win, is that of the love one can only find from family and friends…

Hurricanes, when they’re not bashing someones home, are the shit! Over-hype, beach tags, “prevention” lifeguarding, crowds, and bad wind are the buzz-kills in NJ that even Peter LaFleur couldn’t dodge, at least not all day. When everything comes together life is good, when it doesn’t, well you probably know too much…
I can remember growing up, watching Jim Cantorre on the weather channel. Everything was simple then, local forecast on the 8′s, tropical update every hour, if the storm looked like it was coming close to the coast we were stoked, our home beach would be pumping! Even if it sucked, we…

Next week I’ll be updating my post from a sunny, freeway paced, southern California summer camp??? I’ll be heading out there for Volcoms VQS championships in Newport Beach to take my chances at the $50,000 purse.. I’ve wanted to surf this event for some time now, but never properly qualified until this year with a win at a Seaside Heights qualifying event last month. The VQS is a surf contest, I think.. Volcom usually has a theme to anything they do, this year they will be transforming 54th street, Newport, to a summer camp. The antics on the beach…

No, I’m not talking about the insane action of this years play-off Hockey, I’m talking about the the six-month, to the death, preverbal boxing match we re-enter with each frigid winter surf session. The gloves are off! We won! I surfed for hours yesterday without gloves, and, to feel the cool ocean in my hands again was more than refreshing after the long, demanding, battle and I’m stoked on what’s to come.
Spring is a killer time of year. Life is rekindled everywhere around us in excitement for the upcoming summer season and it’s not limited to the birds,…

Yesterday Oakley and SurferMag came to town to throw the North East qualifying event. Held at Casino Pier, the event attracted eight shop teams from the region including top finishers, Heritage, Seventh Street, and Inlet-Outlet.
Conditions were looking pretty dismal first thing in the morning. The small surf wasn’t even showing up on the wave cams before I left my house to make the northernly trek up to Seaside with my teammates, Jamie Moran, Zach Humphreys, and Ian Bloch. It was no different story when we arrived to the beach for registration, but, the event, and it’s coordinators, had…
